Update from Administrator – June 30, 2020

June 30, 2020

Hard to believe it is the 4th of July this weekend; time is rushing by!

With the beautiful weather we have been experiencing many families have taken advantage of outdoor visits.  These visits require appropriate PPE (masks) to be worn at all times and a social distance of 6 feet between you and your loved ones for the entirety of the visit. We continue providing virtual and window visits and encourage residents and families to participate. The specific guidelines and details regarding perimeter visits can be found on our website and Facebook page.

Please remember that the outdoor visits must be pre-scheduled to ensure safe and healthy visits for you, the residents, and our staff. You can schedule a visit by calling Carol Griffin in the Recreation Department at 860-344-0353 or emailing us at recreation@middlesexhcc.com. We are also working on our Sign-Up Genius account as another option for automating the process.

As you know from our communications, managing this pandemic has been very challenging but we continue to focus on our residents and their well-being.  We are happy to report that we currently have 0 positive residents in house. Check our Facebook page to see updated pictures of our recent graduates- It is truly uplifting for our staff and residents.

Last week, the state DPH and members of the National Guard visited our center for a monitoring visit and found us to be in compliance. We continue to follow all CDC and state guidelines and receive regular updates on new guidelines that are offered.

Resident Testing

Wednesday, July 1, 2020 all residents who HAVE NOT tested positive in the past will take part in the states mandatory testing. We have coordinated with Griffin Hospital to conduct this testing and should have results back within 24-48 hours.   We will only contact all families for residents who test positive. If you do not hear from a facility staff member you can assume your loved one has tested negative but you are always welcome to reach out to the facility and check in.

Staff Testing

We have been able to secure a contract with a vendor through the state and our testing will begin July 1, 2020 and will take place regularly. The vendor has informed us that they can test all staff members at that time and will have results back to us in 24 hours. I will continue to keep you updated as the plan unfolds and test results become available.

Thank you and please stay safe and healthy! Although the weather outside is becoming warmer and sunnier each day, it is important to remember that it is still necessary to be cautious and aware that the risks of COVID-19 are still present.
